Pre-K C

Classroom Teachers - Ms. Jennifer & Mrs. Santos

Hi Parents! We are excited to welcome you and your child to our Pre-K classroom.  On this page, you will find information on what your child will learn each month, along with pictures to highlight these learning experiences and will be updated on a monthly basis. If you have any specific questions, please don’t hesitate to reach us on ClassDojo.

September/October  - The First Six Weeks

During the first six weeks of school, we will welcome and support children as they say goodbye to their families and hello to their new peers and teachers, become familiar with the classroom rules and school routines, begin to understand that they are members of a classroom community with rights and responsibilities, and come to know themselves as learners within an organized setting. This will be done to set a strong foundation for all the learning that lies ahead.

Here are the focus questions for the first six weeks:

Focus Question 1. What names do we need to know at school?

Focus Question 2. What should we do if we feel sad or scared at school?

Focus Question 3. What are our rules?

Focus Question 4. When do things happen in school?

Focus Question 5. Who works at our school?

Focus Question 6. How can we make and keep friends? How can we be part of a group?

November - Trees

In this unit, we investigated the characteristics of trees, how they change throughout the seasons, and how animals and humans use them for resources. We collected outdoor materials to create bird nests and different art projects. Towards the end of the unit, we investigated how materials such as pencils and paper were made and how wood helps us create buildings.

December - Buildings

This unit gives students the opportunity to learn about different types of buildings, their features, who builds them, and the tools used to build them. We learned about the different buildings in our community, such as restaurants, apartment buildings, church, and small businesses. Students recreated one of the buildings with pieces of cardboard.

January - Signs

This study on signs offers children an opportunity to look around their home and school environments and discover the different kinds of signs they can find. In this study they will discover the different ways that signs are used in their community and how they serve us. They will create their own signs throughout the study in a variety of different ways that engages them in meaningful literacy, mathematics, and art experiences.
