Fourth Grade (ELA and SS Grades 4-5 and Religion Gr. 4)


April:

4th grade is celebrating Poetry Month by learning different types of poems. They wrote their own Cinquain poems! They celebrated Earth day by planting seeds. Our new ELA Reading module focuses on healthy eating and keeping our plant safe.  We are also eagerly awaiting for our class caterpillars to form into cocoons. In a few weeks we will release beautiful butterflies!



October:

4th grade is looking forward to all the fun activities this October. We will have a STEAM Friday and a Costume dress down on Halloween day.

In Social Studies students researched famous Hispanics for Hispanic Heritage Month. 

Our ELA reading module is “Come To Your Senses”. We will explore how people and animals use their senses to navigate the world.

September 11 - 15 Reminders:

*4th grade has GYM class on Mondays AND Wednesdays
*Spanish class is on Tuesdays - Children should have a notebook specifically for Spanish.
*To keep workbooks neat all student workbooks must be covered. Contact paper works best. Please cover student books as they bring them home.
*Thursday, September 14th is Back to School Night for parents at 7pm in the auditorium.
*Friday - Blue/Gold Dress Down $3.00 and the Back to School BBQ 6pm-8pm

4th Grade April

4th graders worked on their creative writing skills. They wrote and illustrated a class book titled: “Epic Authors” that was published and showcases their original poems and short stories! Congratulations!

4th Grade March

4th Graders are working on creating a museum display about the Northeast region of the United States for social studies. They are also beginning Module 7 - “Tricksters and Tall Tales” What lessons can you learn from characters in traditional tales?

We will learn about St. Patrick and St. Joseph this month. And we look forward to our class trip to the Hall of Science!

4th Grade  January 16-20th-  4th grade comes to the end of  Reading Module 5 -”Art Everywhere” and gets ready to begin Module 6 - “Marvels of Nature”  What makes Earth’s natural wonders exciting and unique? In Social Studies, we will explore the five geographic regions of the United States and what makes each one unique.

In 4th grade we are engaged in reading activities and projects that will help us prepare for the NYS ELA test in the spring of 2023.  

Fourth grade is also joyfully celebrating the season of Advent. They will work on various projects related to the season. They are also beginning a new Reading Module that asks the Essential Question: What makes someone a hero? In Social Studies we are finishing our Conservation magazine. Students will research causes of habitat destruction and think of ways to help save these habitats.  

5th Grade

In Reading, 5th grade is working on Pioneer Dioramas to showcase what they learned about that time period in the Module “Wild West”.  In Social Studies they also continue to learn about the various Native American groups that lived in the Americas before 1492.


Students in both grades have the opportunity to work with our online i-Ready program for Math and ELA, which will help meet the students’ needs by personalizing their learning and monitoring their progress throughout the year.
