Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Juliana Cruz and I am the Kindergarten class teacher. We are going to have a fun and exciting year in Kindergarten! I am so excited to watch you learn and grow throughout this school year.


Week of April 15, 2024
This week in our HMH Into Reading program, we will continue Module 6, Home of the Free and the Brave. We will be learning the long u sound and words with the short and long u sounds.  We will review the sight word who and learn the sight word two.

Our spelling words for this week are cup, fun, hug, tub, cute, and mule.  We will have our spelling test on Friday, April 19th.

Book report book bags given on Monday are due next Monday, April 22nd.

In Math class, we continue our unit on addition and subtraction fluency as well as decomposing numbers.

In Religion class, the students will learn they are members of the church, the family of God.

In Science we will begin learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Reminders for this week:
This week is dress down for the Ladies' Night Out $10 for the whole week, or $3 each day.

Student Council will be selling cake pops with a dress-down coupon for $4 and lollipops with a dress-down coupon are $3. Supplies are limited until they run out.

Monday, April 15th is our gym day, if they are dressed down they should still wear sneakers for gym.

Tuesday, April 16th the May lunch orders are due.

May Scholastic book club flyers went home Friday. to place an order use our class code.

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Welcome to our class page. My name is Mrs. Juliana Cruz I am your child’s kindergarten teacher this year. I look forward to meeting all of you and having a fantastic year.
Below is the list of supplies your child will need for the 2023-2024 school year. Please make sure to label all your child’s supplies with their first and last name.

Required Items
• 3, plastic, two pocket folders - one red, one yellow, one blue.
• 1 box of sharpened pencils, at least 10.
• 2 reams of copy paper
• $20 per child - This will be used to buy notebooks, glue, crayons, and other supplies needed during the school year for the students.
• $7 per child- This will pay for our Scholastic Magazine subscription for our Science and Social Studies lessons.
• 1 standard backpack (No wheels please – it should be large enough to hold a full-sized folder)
• 1 soft lunchbox (No metal lunchboxes please)
• 1 set of headphones (not earbuds) in a Ziplock bag - labeled with your child’s name - for use with iPads
• * 1 box of tissues
• * 2 rolls of paper towels
• * 2 large packs of baby wipes
• * 1 container of Clorox/Disinfecting wipes

Congratulations to the Kindergarten class on their graduation!



Week of May 22, 2023 

This week in our HMH Into Reading program, we will begin Module 8 Plant to Plate  We will be learning about the long a and long i sounds in words.  We will learn the words same, take, like, and time.

Our spelling words this week are same, take, like, time, and five.

In Math class, we will be learning numbers up to 100 by 1’s and 10’s.

In Religion class, the students will learn how Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to help guide us.

In Social Studies we will learn why we celebrate Memorial Day.

Reminders for next week.
Tuesday, May 23rd, is our gym day, students wear their gym uniform and sneakers.

Friday, May 26th is the Student of the Month assembly at 9:00 AM. It is a $5 Fun Friday dress down, details to follow.

Week of November 21, 2022

This week in our HMH Into Reading program, we will continue Module 2, There’s Only One Me. We will review the letter sounds and words that we have learned.  We will practice counting syllables in words and rhyming words. 

In Math class, we will be practicing numbers 1 to 10, counting sets, and writing numbers.

In Religion class, the students will learn how we praise and thank God.

In Social Studies class, we will compare the first Thanksgiving to the way we celebrate Thanksgiving now.

Reminders for the week:

Monday, November 21st is a $3 dress-down day.

Tuesday, November 22nd is our gym day. Thanksgiving pie orders will be distributed at dismissal.

Wednesday, November 23rd 9:00 Student of the Month assembly. Thanksgiving prayer service and Turkey lunch. Dismissal is at 12:30, no after school

Thursday, November 24th Happy Thanksgiving, school is closed.

Friday, November 25th school is closed.

Week of November 14, 2022

This week in our HMH Into Reading program, we will continue Module 2, There’s Only One Me. We will be learning the letter sound and words that begin with Nn and Dd. We will review the sight words my, to, by, am, at, and go and learn the sight words an, man, and no.

In Math class, we will be showing different ways we can make 10. We will have our Unit 3 test and begin comparing numbers 6 to 10.

In Religion class, the students will learn how we praise and thank God.

In Social Studies class, we will be learning about some symbols of America.

In our Let’s Find out magazine we will learn about the tradition of totems.

Reminders:

Monday, November 14th, the Family Ties project is due.
It is the last day for Migrant Clothing donations and the last day of the Thanksgiving pie sale.

Tuesday, November 15th, is our gym day.

Thursday, November 17th, is picture day, and the last day of the Thanksgiving food drive. Our class was assigned canned fruit.

Friday, November 18th, is Fun Friday, $5 Thanksgiving-themed activities, and dress down.

Week of October 31, 2022

This week in our HMH Into Reading program, we will begin Module 2, There’s Only One Me. We will be learning the letter sounds and words that begin with Tt and Bb. We will review the sight words the, a, see, and I, and learn the sight word my, to, and by.

In Math class, we will be learning to count sets of 6, 7, 8, and 9 and write and identify the numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9.

In Religion class, the students will learn about saints as we celebrate All Saints day.

In Science class, we will be finishing our unit about our 5 senses.

Reminders:
Monday, October 31st, Halloween Fun Monday $5 to wear your costume and participate in a day of Halloween fun.
Student of the Month assembly is at 9:00 followed by our Halloween parade. Bake sale, proceeds with be donated to ovarian and breast cancer organizations.

Tuesday, November 1st All Saints day school is open.  It is our gym day.

Wednesday, November 2nd, the Thanksgiving pie sale begins.

Friday, November 4th, pretzel and cookie sale.
Dismissal is at 1:45.

Week of October 10, 2022

Monday, October 10th, school is closed for Columbus Day.

This week in our HMH Into Reading program, Module 1 Curious About Kindergarten, we will be reading stories about school, introducing the letters of the alphabet, and beginning to learn sight words.

This week we will be learning the letters Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu, and Vv. We will review the sight words the, a, and see and learn the sight word I.

In Math class, we will begin comparing sets of objects and numbers up to 5. We will use the words equal, greater, and less than to compare 2 sets.
In Religion class, the students will learn that all of God’s creation is good, and God wants us to love and care for each other.
We will be learning about Fire dogs in the Let’s Find Out magazine.

Reminders:

Tuesday, October 11th is a hurricane relief donation dress down.
The fall collage project is due.

Thursday, October 13th is $3 dress down for Ovarian and Breast cancer. Wear pink, red, or teal.
