Dear NDCA Parents & Caregivers,

A sigh of relief for the 6th and 7th graders who completed the NYS ELA tests digitally last week.

The 6th graders are finishing up their junior novel.

Dear NDCA Parents & Caregivers,

We are in full swing in our ELA, SS and Science classes. Below are some updates on what we have been learning in the various classes.

Grade 7

ELA - we are reading The Outsiders and the students are really enjoying the action and interesting characters. The students wrote Vocabulary scripts for some of the vocabulary words from the novel. We have also begun preparing for our NYS ELA State Test by reading passages and answering questions.

SS - We are researching the characteristics of the three main regions of the 13 Colonies, and how the natural resources of each region contributed to its economy.

Science - our current topic is Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi and Protists. The students observed pond water under the microscope looking for microorganisms. They are also participating in simulation lab activities testing viruses to cure bacterial infections.

Grade 6 - we are reading The Lightning Thief and it is an extremely entertaining book. The students just completed vocabulary skits using vocabulary from this junior novel.

Grade 8 - we are just beginning to learn about Reconstruction and researching, “What is the Legacy of Reconstruction?” The students will be using the HMH text and various other reliable sources to formulate their opinions.

Have a blessed day!  Mrs. Lisa Tritremmel-Cooney
